Upside-Down Art styled art known as Masg, is uniquely an L. R. Emerson II invention.

Emerson's recent book: The Purple Tree; Art in a Boundless Age, 2009 documents his 25 year journey to create and perfect his inventive Upside-Down, "multi-directional" (L.R.) style of artmaking named Masg.

Masg is NOT Upsidedownism: which wrongly claims to have invented "upside-down art" altogether.
Moreover, Upsidedownsim claims it is based on the good and bad in people or matter and Upside-Down Art, or "multi-directional" has exisited for many milineieum.

Even internaitionally acclaimed artist, Georg Baselitz has called Emerson's work "...inspiring." 2009. Recently, Baselitz' own work sold at auction for $4.6 milliion dollars. Baselitz is a very sincere man in general and rarely speaks publically or alligens himself with political or social agendas yet he has expressed his opinion about Emerson's work -  furher validting the merit within.

Equally, Emerson does not attempt to foolishly tie any concept or hidden meaning into his unique Masg style.

Art, currently has enough of this nonsense going on as it is -  whereby artists make a work then try to claim it has some deep, conceptual meaning that is usually so ambiguosly connected that anyone could both agree and disagree with the connection. What binality those actions suggest.

Emerson notes that "multi-directional" compositions date back thousands of years to early Aztec and Mayan cultures. Baselitz himself creates and exhibits his style of upside-down artworks, (paintings nothing like Emerson's of course) but Baselitz has exhibitied his works  as early as the 1960's. Baselitz was a well established artist by the mid 1970's and was later featured in the Los Angeles Times newspaper in 1984 with one of his upside-down paintings. These are the facts.

Emerson's imagery and composotions, on the other hand are more closley alligned with ambigrams from the late 1,800's, and also may have some slight connection so called  "topsy turvy" cartoons by artist's such as Gustave Verbeek and Peter Newell from the turn of the century and into the 1930's.

Emerson certainly does not disdain one's attempt to create similar works but does not in any way support any comtemporary artist's claim they "invented" upsidedownism nor multi-directional art nor upside-down art.

Inarguably, Emerson is an artist who has pioneered 35 individual methods for constructing his "multi-directional works and he is a documented and published inventor/author of several key process for working with digital technology. Emerson's accompishments stand alone in this manner. Addionally his contribution to the human effort to redefine artmaking and to promulgate new Art Movements is profound.

To date Emerson has receieved more than 100 awards for his Upside-Down MAsg styled art and he continues to find new and ever-inventive ways to create.

It is noteworthy to mention, Emerson is the nephew of renown manufacturing giant Ernest R. Emerson of Emerson Knives who's patented knives are used world-wide by police, military and by special Op forces.

Also, the Emerson's including L. R. are descendants of both famed early American Heroin Hannah Dustin from the 1,600's and subsequently descended from American Philosopher Ralph Waldo Emerson.
